César Sierra, the Venezuelan writer, and director comments that the projects he has been working on include the adaptation to the 21st century of the classic La Dama de las Camelias, for a TV film of VIP 2000 TV. This project was about to start shooting in Puerto Rico when it had to be halted due to the pandemic.

“I have made the most of this lockdown time to review old projects, including an episodic series, also written for VIP 2000 TV, which other writers colleagues and I have been updating and restructuring so they have lower budgets. I have also had new ideas I have dedicated time to develop. One of them is now in the hands of Sony Pictures Television,” explained Sierra. His most recent works include the TV series Escándalos (2014) for VIP 2000 TV.

Sierra detailed that due to the pandemic there will be lower production budgets. “The long quarantine period and the halt of productions and launches has hit producers and exhibitors strongly. Series with too many episodes will also surely be avoided, due to fear of a relapse that generates new suspension of shootings,” he added.

When consulted about the storytelling, he mentioned that it will be necessary to say what everyone experienced once life goes back to normal, “when viewers have started to consider it a memory of times that will not return. For the general viewer, fiction is an escape, entertainment. And after these hard times we have all lived, they will want luminous and hopeful productions”.
