Horacio Gavilán, executive director of the Culture Marketing Council (CMC), shared in an interview with Adam Jacobson on The Hispanic Radio Podcast his thoughts on the opportunities the Hispanic market offers today and how “the voice of Hispanic marketing” it is getting ready for its annual conference.“CMC has existed for 22 years – what we do is educate advertisers and help them better understand the power of Hispanics in the marketplace. So there’s still a lot of work ahead. Some are taking advantage of it and others aren´t doing it the way they should. What this means is that there are many unexplored opportunities for advertisers to reach Hispanic audiences,” he said. This will be the organization’s first conference under the name of CMC, formerly known as AHAA. “This year’s topic is culture, community and creativity. One of the things we try to do at our conferences is, of course, not just talk about ourselves, but create content that advertisers find relevant. Last year, several advertisers who were not active in the Hispanic market participated, and after that, did they get active!” Gavilán said. When talking specifically about radio, he said that between 2013 and 2017 the number of Hispanics who listened to radio went from a 39.5 percent growth to a 42.49 percent growth. “This signifies that today radio reaches 98 percent of Hispanics in the US. For advertisers, having radio broadcasting available that has a vast reach in the fast-growing Hispanic community means lots of new marketing opportunities.
