On Monday, October 20, those in the business of television and video for Hispanic audiences will meet at the 23rd Annual Hispanic Television Summit and Awards, in the Playwright Ballroom on the third floor of the New York Marriott Marquis, at 1535 Broadway, New York City.
The entire event is presented as a luncheon program condensed into three-hours, from 11:30am to 2:30pm. The presenting sponsor of this year’s Summit is Kivi Connected TV.
The most popular highlight of the event each year is the presentation of the Hispanic Television Awards. This year, there are four awards to be presented in two categories; one category named for the late Rafael Eli, a co-producer of the Summit, recognizes pioneers in Hispanic television. The other category will recognize an organization and an individual for leadership within the industry.
The first of the Rafael Eli Awards for Pioneer in Hispanic television will be presented to Joe Torres, the award-winning news reporter, and weekend anchor of Eyewitness News and host of the weekly talk show, Tiempo on WABC-TV Channel 7 in New York. Torres is being recognized for continuing his decades of commitment to reporting local news stories and covering special events, especially when it involves members of the Hispanic community.

The second Rafael Eli Award is presented to Stacie De Aramas, an executive with Nielsen where she serves as the SVP of Diverse Intelligence & Initiatives. She is being recognized for her ongoing passionate pursuit to accurately reflect and represent the Hispanic community in media.
NAMIC, the National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications is being recognized with the Hispanic Television Award for Leadership in Advocating for Inclusion throughout the business of television. The award is being accepted on behalf of the organization by Sandra Girado, NAMIC’s VP of Events & Partner Relations.
Jose Cancela, President of Telemundo Station Group, will be presented with the Hispanic Television Award for Leadership in Broadcasting. Over the past decades, Cancela has led by example, and he has demonstrated his leadership by helping employees grow professionally.

The awards ceremony follows the luncheon program at the 23rd Annual Hispanic Television Summit. The program celebrates the new wave of Latino Pride within the business of television and video for Hispanic audiences with the theme “Content, Culture, Connection and Community.”
According to Joe Schramm, the Summit’s longtime producer, “This is the longest running, must-attend annual conference for this segment of the television business. We are excited to announce our lineup of speakers and participants as well as some of our class of honorees for the Annual Hispanic Television Awards. This year, as always, we will discuss key issues related to the growth and profitability of this industry dedicated to providing television and video to Hispanic viewers.”
Schramm continued, “In addition to our program, the Summit also provides attendees an opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements of others.”
The award ceremony is preceded by a program of conversations with key executives in the industry, including an address on the State of Hispanic Advertising by Ronald Mendes, representing HMC (Hispanic Marketing Council). The address is followed by a one-on-one conversation about the World Cup’s powerful contribution to the rising tide of Latino Pride though its influence on content, culture, connection and community with Luis Rosero, VP Government Affairs for NBCUniversal Telemundo.
This is followed by a panel discussion focused on the growing appeal of international soccer, featuring Fernando Palomo, sports announcer for ESPN Deportes, and programming executives from ESPN Deportes, and LaLiga. The session is moderated by Adriana Waterston of Horowitz Research/M/A/R/C.
A panel discussion about advertising in Hispanic media is moderated by Court Stroud, Clinical Assistant Professor of Integrated Marketing at NYU, and features panelists Gonzalo Del Fa President of Group M Multicultural, Michael Roca, Executive Director of the Cross-Cultural Center, Omnicom Media Group, as well as representatives from Televisa/Univision and Warner Brothers Discovery.
The final panel discussion of the program focuses on the multiple options for distribution of content to Hispanic viewers – whether by linear broadcast or cable or digitally on social or streaming platforms. This discussion is moderated by Liz Blacker, the COO of The Content Code and includes leading distribution executives from Music Choice, Condista, Castalia and HITN.
Attendees include leading executives in the business of television and video for Hispanics representing: brands, advertisers, agencies, media buyers, media sales, content creators, producers, programmers, content distributors, publicists, marketers and promotions executives, data and consumer researchers, and investors, as well as broadcasters, cable TV and satellite providers, streaming platforms, connected TV and sources of digital and social media.
