Agency creates board game Agencyland that emulates the intricacies of an ad agency

Washington DC agency This January created “Agencyland,” a Monopoly-inspired board game that takes you through the ups and downs of agency life, complete with cutthroat pitches, non-paying clients, and creative glory.

Players can win and lose business, hire and fire staff, enter awards, earn a Lion, or just get bogged down in quarterly reviews and feedback. Whether you get lost in Awards Alley, Layoff Lane, or Pitch Parkway, there’s never a dull moment.

Players can detour into Awards Alley, The Copywriter Carnival, Art Director Drive, or Account Manager Arcade. Don’t get lost in “layoff lane” or stuck in “pitch parkway.”

“We were playing Monopoly over the holidays and realized there are so many ways to bring a game of capitalism to the world of modern advertising,” said Maggie Winters, executive managing director and partner at This January. “We thought it would be fun to show our friends, family, and even our team what it’s like to run an agency behind the scenes.”
