“The Showcase is a big part of our calendar. I would say this event is the one that contributes the most to our business. There are three relevant aspects of the Showcase: the opportunity for buyers to listen to the different insights of our editorial group about the new shows, being able to get together with the talents and producers of the shows and know what creators are thinking, as well as having the opportunity to see the TV shows. We have 600 digital booths and 3000 hours of content available,” comments Paul Dempsey, president of Global Markets at BBC Worldwide.

Dempsey spoke of the importance of dramas for the BBC. “I think we are at a fantastic time, since British dramas enjoy a very good reputation. As a result, they are a big percentage of our sales, nearly 50%, and that works around the world. We are strong in drama, but record growth in all the genres,” he added.

To end, he expressed that the BBC has never changed, “we wouldn’t describe ourselves as a channel business. We have always been a content business. Our recent conclusion is that we are more successful and this is being proved with some of the sales we have had in Latin America, by providing our content o bigger players than our channels. TV sales in Latin America have increased more than 29% and our formats business has grown 60% in the last year.”
