“We kick off 2023 firmly in terms of sustainability and we will continue boosting new and more rigorous sustainable practices,” said Coty Cagliolo, director of Production at Fremantle Latin America.

Fremantle uses the Albert Foundation emissions meter, or Albert Calculator, which was developed in partnership with the company. Fremantle also supports other calculators and certification schemes such as Germany’s Green Motion. The Albert Foundation is a carbon footprint measurement system that was launched in 2021, which helps set an emissions baseline for each production.

Cagliolo explained that they have an internal sustainability team for all their productions and that they also hire external companies, which help certify the recycling and reuse of most materials. For instance, in one of their productions that took place this year in Mexico, they were able to reuse 1,360 kilos of pine wood, by delivering it to a carpentry workshop.

This effort has earned the company recognition, such as being shortlisted by the British Embassy UK-Mexico GREAT Business Awards 2022 in the Friends of the Planet category.

“We have already set our sustainability goals and among them is reducing our emissions to less than 50% by 2030. But not everything is about emissions and calculations, we are also interested in creating content that supports and makes visible a sustainable future,” commented Cagliolo, who added that it’s not enough to meet standards: “We will keep what works, yes, but we also like to challenge ourselves and ask ourselves… What else can we do? How are we going to outperform in terms of sustainability? And that’s where we’re going,” she said.
