The Guanajuato International Film Festival continues its commitment to the growth of the audiovisual industry and in this 26th edition, it’s promoting advice for new filmmakers granted by experts. For the coordinator of Industria GIFF, Leticia Moreno, it is important to have meetings like this that allow a broader vision of the issues that are permeating the market, among them, the steps to create a script, distribution, post-production and financing.

“This year we return to private sessions with specialists to advise new talents in the creation of scripts, production, distribution, post-production and financing. These advisors support those who come with their projects, those who are in the development stage and also the finalists of the different competitions. Each session covers 20 minutes max., five are for pitching and 15 for specialized feedback, reaching approximately 35 consultancies per day, taught by seven professionals, ranging from scriptwriters, producers and distributors. The intention is to promote and encourage the work of screenwriters and filmmakers,” she said.

For Moreno, the growth of Industria GIFF has come hand in hand with the growth of the festival, considering it as an essential part to enrich the work of new filmmakers and connect them with professionals with extensive experience.

She stressed that, for 26 years, the festival has been innovative by putting on the table the issues that are moving the industry, as happened with VR a couple of years ago and now with AI, a tool that she considers has its pros and cons and which was essential to analyze in depth, hence the creation of forums such as SinergIA, where different players in the industry talk about the current landscape and envision how it will affect their work.

“It is a tool that can be useful to streamline processes such as script grading: In the script contest we always have a jury that is responsible for reviewing and evaluating each project, and now with artificial intelligence, we can reduce the work of two months of review to just two hours; hence the importance of making an in-depth analysis of what are the pros and cons of tools like these.”
