HBO Max will produce teleseries through a new production unit that will be headed by Mônica Albuquerque, current Head of Artistic Talents at WarnerMedia Latin America. Albuquerque will have on her team Silvio de Abreu, ex-Globo, as showrunner.

Joana Jabace also joins as artistic director responsible for following the projects from the theme selection, the casting, and the production team, according to Brazilian media.

“We have in all our countries a consolidated tradition of expressing ourselves through this type of narrative, which is both so popular and so sophisticated. Our dramaturgy has much to share with the world and in recent years, with the development of the American series, we were clear witnesses of the search for the long arc, so characteristic of the series that have inhabited the screens of Latin America for a long time,” said Tomás Yankelevich, Chief Content Officer of WarnerMedia Latin America.

“We are very confident in the development of this new area. We believe in the power of melodrama to attract global audiences. Our goal is to tell these stories with the rhythm of the series, with a solid narrative structure and bringing relevant and urgent themes. Brazil is a pool of talents and ideas and the creators of these stories helped build an internationally respected and award-winning market and Abreu, in addition to being a great partner and friend, is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in playwriting. in the country. With this new unit, we will be able to broaden our focus throughout Latin America and create important alliances not only in Brazil, but also in other countries such as Mexico, Colombia, and Argentina,” said Albuquerque.

De Abreu said that he is very happy with this new challenge and he already feels at home. “Creating narratives and bringing relevant themes that get the audience to be involved, to identify and manage the impact on society fuels this challenge, which I am sure will generate many incredible projects.”
