The Colombian writer Héctor Moncada has been behind projects such as El Man es Germán, Lala’s Spa, and Pobres Rico, among others. Now he leads the team of librettists behind Tía Alison (61×60′), a series by Estudios RCN that will be shown on Canal RCN in Colombia and ViX around the world.

“Aunt Alison stems from the need to tell a story with an unexplored character. Novels have been made about the mother, the father, children, but little has been done about the uncles. This is how this story emerges combined with the dream of many Latinos to move to the US,” said Moncada, who is characterized by mixing comedy and drama in his stories.

Moncada visited the set during the shootings, an uncommon practice among scriptwriters in Colombia, but that according to Héctor nourishes the productions a lot. “Many situations come out, character traits that add up to enrich the story and it feels that it is a team effort. I think television works when the script has feedback.”

As the recordings progressed, Moncada constantly met with directors Israel Sánchez and Víctor Cantillo and with the actors to include new things in the characters and the situations they are involved in.

“The script is interpreted not read, and this has to be very close to what we writers have in our heads. We are on the same page. The cast has managed to make a great interpretation of each character and invested a lot of life into it. That has made the story enjoyable to watch,” he said.

According to Moncada, this continuous feedback managed to fulfill the purpose of the dramedy, going from tears to laughter in several scenes, and flowed naturally. He guaranteed that with Tía Alison many people will see itself, in addition to honoring a family character that frequently goes unnoticed but is very important.
