Bayly: I believe the arrival of MundoFox is a good thing; it stimulates competition

Jaime Bayly was among the celebrities in attendance at the welcome party Mega TV organized for Charytín Goyco. PRODU spoke to him upon his arrival. Bayly commented on the evolution of the Hispanic market after he launched his television career internationally. “The Hispanic market has grown exponentially from 1995 to date. It’s more sophisticated; 30 years ago prime time was full of soap-like melodramas. Now fictions have become more current, more intelligent,” he said.“I believe the arrival of MundoFox is a good thing; it stimulates competition. Both Univisión and Telemundo, and now Mundofox are producing high-quality television,” he added.Bayly, who is well known for his irreverent and incisive journalistic style, has been the host a late night show named after himself at Mega since 2006.“Mega is an alternative channel that, in contrast to other networks, features live programming. That’s something I find risky but also different. I believe there’s no other Spanish-language channel in the U.S. that offers three or four consecutive hours of live TV on primetime,” added Bayly. His future plans include publishing his new literary work. “I just finished writing a novel that I hope to publish this year. I can’t reveal more at this point, but I’m very optimistic about it,” said Bayly.
