Alvaro Godoy de Mediapro

Álvaro Godoy has been the head of Non-Scripted Mexico and Colombia in Mediapro since April this year, at the forefront of everything related to entertainment, reality shows, contest shows, and documentaries, among others, after leaving his position as VP of Unscripted Development at Endemol Shine Boomdog. Godoy was at MIP Cancun showing formats of the Mediapro catalogue, such as Protagonistas de Novela, with the proposal to upgrade with very integral actors who participate in series or Doce Corazones, very popular on Telemundo, and of which they made a refresh for the region.

“We also represent Be Entertainment for Latin America, one of Belgium’s most important production companies, which has a catalogue of new, fun, very interesting formats that we are adapting and curating for the Latin American market. We are also making our original developments, with whom, together with our creative team, which has a great deal of experience and develops very well, we are working in close coordination with Spain, in addition to the other offices we have, such as Argentina” commented Godoy.

After more than 12 years at Endemol Shine Boomdog, where he was also on the development team, he mentioned that the experience at Endemol Shine Boomdog has been truly valuable. “Coming from a company that has that catalogue, which is the case of Endemol, and working on the development of a project like La Casa de los Famosos for Telemundo, and with others that have had tremendous impact, the lessons have been enormous. You learn how to put together a huge and ambitious program tailored to a client’s specific needs and that is what we want to apply to this new catalogue. This, together with the production experience Mediapro is bringing, is going to be amazing” he furthered.

He explained that everything that is coming is very exciting, because Mediapro is very interested in the Mexican and Latin American markets, and they are making a strong bet in the Mexico office by setting up a team that has the production quality for which Mediapro is internationally recognized.

He mentioned that the formats allow storytelling in a different way than fiction, in addition to integrating brands organically. An interesting format, which has already been adapted in Spain with very good results, is El Musical de Tu Vida, “which is basically the biography of several important artists in musical theatre. A gala is held, and a tribute is paid to them. In Spain they did it and they had artists that are very relevant in Latin America such as Paulina Rubio or Miguel Bosé and the episodes that have already aired are phenomenal. We believe that in Latin America there is great potential in bringing this type of format” he said.

Another interesting case is Protagonistas, “by having people living together in a house, everything that is inside the house is open to integration, allowing you to incorporate more elements into the budget, so you can have a top quality production, but the financing can also come from a good sales department” he explained.
