New ways of telling stories

Andrés Romero de Timeworks

For Andrés Romero, co-founder and executive producer of Timeworks Group and showrunner, the arrival of new players in the industry such as digital platforms, have opened the opportunity to new ways of telling stories, promoting the figure of showrunners. “The creators have found the right place to present their projects, showing that Hispanic stories are popular, even becoming a success internationally. And there are still very good stories to be adapted,” he points out.

For Romero, the showrunner is the person who has the creative control and the management of a project, “it is the perfect mix between a creator/writer and an executive producer, who ensures that everything works in all aspects of the production,” he says.

He emphasizes that the showrunner must have the ability to create stories with great value, be creative, but having his feet on the ground so that the project does not get out of hand and does not exceed the production budget, to reach the objective planned by the channel or platform.

Among Romero’s current projects is being a content adviser for a new series for Netflix Spain. “Due to the pandemic, we have begun to create new formats based on the new normal, new production concepts so that we can develop them in times of virus,” he says.

He added that with the pandemic they did not have to stop any projects. “We were producing remotely, creating content for a Univision franchise. We finished the development of the digital show Fenómenos paranormales for Telemundo on YouTube and for the network digital platforms.”
