Producer Salvador Mejía spoke with PRODU about his new project La Tempestad. The production kicked off March 4th with Miss Universe Ximena Navarrete and William Levy leading the cast. For Mejía it is crucial to bring new stories that can perpetuate Televisa’s 50-year track record of successful telenovelas.“There are high expectations surrounding William and Ximena. Many say she’s not an actress, but she spent a year at CEA, is a Miss Universe, and has the gravitas her role requires. We wanted to feature a couple that was charismatic, charming and attractive,” he said.Mejía, who also produced Qué Bonito Amor, said Televisa is currently producing hit novelas, all of which “correspond to our goal of continuing the success streak. We are recapturing our audience; those who enjoy telenovelas. We want to go back to the Televisa of 50 years ago, but with a modern twist.” For most productions, social media plays a key role in interacting with audiences. In this regard, Mejía pointed out that although the reach has not been high –only 2% of the audience- “housewives, the actual consumers of TV, are the most important; but we know we need to pay attention to these tools because they provide vital feedback.”La Tempestad is an original story by Kiko Olivieri, adapted by Liliana Abud, and will be shot mostly in Veracruz, Mexico.
