TelevisaUnivision: We’re preparing a science fiction series for ViX that will start filming in 2024

Producer Reynaldo López spoke about his new projects, highlighting the shooting of the second season and the development of the third of the comedy series Tal para cual, soon to premiere on Las Estrellas; as well as a new science fiction project for ViX, and he assured that Mexico has become the main Spanish-speaking studio to develop content.
“I am about to start a science fiction series for ViX, it is a project that I have been writing and developing for a long time and is ready to be produced. It is episodic with original stories with touches of magical realism, a lot of fiction, and an international quality. It is Twilight Zone style, and we hope to start recording during the first half of 2024,” he explained. He intends to venture into high-quality science fiction series: “not like the ones made for TV, but unique for streaming, with universal stories that, when dubbed, can be appreciated anywhere in the world, and that even can be recorded in other languages. I believe more in the international narrative.”
Additionally, they are finishing the recordings of the second season and developing the third installment of the program Tal para cual, starring Consuelo Duval and Lorena de la Garza.
Lopez said that in Mexico the production of science fiction has not been explored because Mexicans trust little in their abilities. “We have come to believe that only Americans or British can do it, but we can too, as long as it has that mixture between the international approach and what we as Mexicans understand it. For example, I have a story that has to do with the Aztecs, but it’s something that can be appreciated anywhere in the world.”
He added that one of the main limitations to producing this genre is budget, the evolution in the development of stories, and how well-prepared are the script professionals. In the end, the story rules.”
Finally, the producer highlighted Mexico’s potential in terms of production, catching the attention of the whole world and betting to produce in the country: “Mexico has become the great studio of the Spanish-speaking world to develop content. Everyone is coming seeking excellent work and maquila, as well as the excellence in their technical professionals and I think great growth is coming.”
