According to Carlos Abascal, TV and massive media specialist and consultant, who was part of the founding team of HBO, the pandemic has created a watershed at every level. Abascal, who took part in #PRODUprimetime with Richard Izarra, said that after the pandemic, there will be a regulation of digital media and their professionalization, local work will gain more strength at the production level and business models of the large entertainment groups will have to be reevaluated.

“I don’t know how we are going to do now with this economic adaptation that touches all of us. People who know how to work with little are the ones who are going to move forward. The one that evolves is not the most intelligent nor the strongest one, but the one who adapts and changes,” explained the executive.

He added that Disney has always been an entertainment and that is why they are solid. “The only one that has an integration between entertainment and parks is Disney. What are Comcast and AT&T going to do to have something similar, to create that content that people can pay?”.

He furthered that there will be a problem if movie theaters do not reopen. “If I don´t have those people paying US$7 at US$20 in a movie theater, if theaters don’t reopen, there will be a multiplying effect for this industry, because they were the number one income source for this industry and many people got stuck. It isn’t about having an early release and putting it on Netflix. It doesn’t work that way,” he comments.

Regarding the regularization of digital media, he explained that it isn’t about censorship, but about discernment. “There is a halt coming with these media channels,” he said.
