Univision’s news programs attract younger and bilingual viewers

Univision Communications announced that its national evening newscast, Noticiero Univisión (Monday-Friday, 6:30-7pm) saw audience growth across all key demographics while the English-language networks reported minimal audience lifts and/or declines compared to January 2011. Noticiero Univision consistently grew its news audience in the last seven consecutive months (July 2011 through January 2012) across all Viewers 2+ and in the last three consecutive months (November 2011 through January 2012) among key Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 viewers.Univision Network’s has the ability to attract audiences that are a generation younger than the competition (a median of 44 years old vs. the median English-language broadcast news audience of 62).During the month of January 2012, Noticiero Univision co-anchored by journalists María Elena Salinas and Jorge Ramos delivered more young viewers ages 18-34 than CBS Evening News (434,000 vs. 418,000). Isaac Lee, president of Univision Communications News commented: “Our ability to attract younger and bilingual viewers is testament to Jorge and María Elena’s unparalleled connection with audiences across generations. As the Hispanic population continues to grow and technology advances, we will continue to look for ways to equip our Univision News team and analysts with the best resources”.Recently, Univision has enhanced its news presence, by launching several social media and interactive initiatives, like a new Noticiero Univision app for the iPhone, iPod touch and Android platforms.
