The new singing competition for kids Idol Kids Puerto Rico debuted in Puerto Rico this Sunday August 5 from 7 to 9pm on WAPA TV with great success. It’s the first time that this kind of show is produced for the island. The transmission presented the first of two audition specials with children between six and 12 years old. According to Nielsen, the show out-delivered all other programs in every demographic, ranking first during its two hours.“In Puerto Rico, a new format of program has been born in which kids can demonstrate their singing abilities, and although they may have always had the talent, there wasn’t an outlet for them. They now can count on this opportunity that allows them to become the first kid idol in the country” said Jimmy Arteaga, VP of Programming and Promotions for WAPA TV. During the 7pm to 9pm timeslot, the household demographic averaged 33.5% of share (20.1 rating), versus 19.7% (12.0) by Univision and 13.6% (8.1) by Telemundo.Among women in Puerto Rico, the show received 45.2% (16,1) while 14% (5.1) went to Univision y 12.2% (4.4) to Telemundo. Between men from 18 to 49, 28.7% (7.8) tuned in to WAPA TV while 20.3% (5.5) watched Telemundo and 14.8% (4) Univision.Within all persons between 18 and 49, WAPA TV held 38.4% (12.2) of share, while Telemundo held 15.6% (4.9) and Univision 14.4% (4.6).
