Gustavo Razzetti, Founder of Liberationist, wrote an article titled: Perfectionism Is the Worst Enemy of Change, in which he explains that “perfectionism can turn into your worst enemy.”He explained there is a paradox in perfectionism. Parents who want their children to be perfect limit their possibilities and these kids will either please their parents or rebel against them. The same happens with perfectionist bosses. In most cases, all they see is fear, and fear generates more mistakes. “In both cases, parents and bosses are promoting a ‘pleasing others’ behavior, rather than encouraging kids or employees to do their best.”Razzetti poses three questions that people must ask themselves to “help you keep perfectly imperfect.” The first is “Are you trying to please others?” According to Razzetti, the more you aim for acceptance, the more you will disappoint them. Regarding the second question – What’s the worst thing that could happen? – he recommends that instead of focusing on what happened, we must enjoy what is happening. And, finally, one must ask oneself: What you can learn when things don’t go as you expected.? “Embracing a change mindset requires to being adaptive to reality rather than getting stuck to how things are supposed to be” he said.“The perfect life is the one you have and can enjoy as is” he said. He recommended aiming for improvement, being bold and brave, experimenting, and more important, being the best person you can be.
