U-LAB, part of Univision Music, has unveiled its first class of emerging artists–Tonina Saputo, Nella Rojas and Desmond Scaife Jr.

U-LAB will provide these young artists with artistic instruction and direction from experienced industry experts while also leveraging UCI’s digital footprint to provide creative output and distribution.

U-LAB, a partnership with Grammy-award winning producer and Berklee College of Music professor Javier Limón, operates at the intersection of music and innovative digital storytelling. U-LAB also has the support of Alejandro Sanz and Jorge Drexler, as creative associates.

“U-LAB is an innovative music project designed to be a gathering point for Univision journalists to experiment with music talent. We want to transform how music is created and distributed, all while experimenting with musical styles and formats to develop engaging narratives across Univision’s digital properties,” said Kevin Mills, vice president, Strategies and Initiatives.

First launched in July 2016, U-LAB champions the next generation of artists through collaboration and creativity. It includes special U-LAB content housed under Uforia Music section on Univision.com including interviews, music videos, sessions, live streams and more. U-LAB will be housed in a warehouse space in Wynwood that opens later this spring and will house recording studios, video editing suites and working space for the Uforia Music team. It will serve as a physical hub for live events, recordings, jam sessions.

“After several months of working with these talented group of young and diverse artists, I’m excited to see the project come to life. But this is only the beginning, U-LAB will become a global reference of quality music, and soon it will change the future of music,” said Javier Limón, creative director of U-LAB.
