Gabe Ibáñez of Altered.LA: What happens on the set, stays on the set

Ibáñez: La inspiración para hacer cine hay que bus

Once graduated in Image Sciences from Madrid’s Universidad Complutense, Gabriel Ibañez became the star of his own life. He founded Extipo, a pioneering association specializing in the study and development of computer-generated images; he also founded UserT38, a company that pursued digital preproduction and postproduction. In 1992, he was wholly into digital postproduction, working as a 3D artist and supervisor of visual effects in movies and advertising spots for eight years. He began directing commercials in 2000. For Ibañez, the most fun about being a director is not knowing how to do what you have to do “you’ve never done it before and you’ll certainly never do it again. What happens on the set, stays on the set”. In the year 2006 he directed his first short film Maquina, which won a Special Jury Prize at the 2007 Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival. In 2008 he directed and produced his first feature film, Hierro, showcased during International Critics’ Week at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.Now 42, he is currently postproducing his next feature, Automata, starring Antonio Banderas. The Spanish director dedicates his movie projects to the audience and the advertising spots to his clients. “And to myself I dedicate the satisfaction of a job well done” Ibañez said.He named Kubrick, Tarkovski and Michael Bay as some of his favorite directors, but added that it’s hard to imagine anyone who loves movies having just one favorite. “And to say they inspire me…well, I think you have to look for the inspiration to make movies outside of the movies”.To continue with his career, Ibañez is specifically looking forward to finishing the postproduction of his second feature film and the screenplay of what he hopes to be his third film, not distancing himself from advertising and above all, in general, continuing to learn.Productora: Altered.LA, EE UUContacto: {Marcos Cline-Márquez;marcos@altered.la}T +1-310-729-8291{Watch video;www.produ.tv/popup.html?noti=7658}
