De Villa: Hoy en día, los límites que demarcaban c

Born in Mexico but with more than 20 years living in the U.S., Alfredo De Villa is a renowned filmmaker and advertising. He began his career after majoring in film at Columbia University in New York City. Almost immediately after graduation, he began working as a director in his adopted country.This renowned director has a list of films, which is expanding more and more. His debut was Washington Heights, with Bobby Cannavale, Tomas Milian, Danny Hoch and Jude Cicollela. He wrote it along with the Pulitzer winner Junot Diaz. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it won an honorable mention for acting and direction. It was purchased and distributed by Lionsgate and it won Best Film at numerous festivals: Los Angeles Independent Film Festival, New York Latino Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, San Antonio Film Festival, the Muestra Internacional de Cine de Santo Domingo, Rhode Island International Film Festival, among many others.Another important film from the Mexican director is Adrift in Manhattan. Heather Graham, Victor Rasuk and Elizabeth Peña participated. It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2007. This one won several awards including Best Picture at the Indianapolis International Film Festival, Best Cast at the Palm Beach International Film Festival and Best Director at the San Diego Film Festival, among others.In 2009, De Villa directed Nothing Like the Holidays, which had Alfred Molina, Debra Messing, Luis Guzman, Freddie Rodriguez, Jay Hernandez. And his latest film Fugly, with John Leguizamo and Rosie Perez.For De Villa, the best of directing is to explore the behavior of individuals. “Although my answer sounds a little open, to me what makes of audiovisual communication a unique art is that it can observe and capture gestures and actions. Things that are not said, but yet are so strong as the word.”In short, “directing is how people behave in different environments. Creating environments that feel realistic within each context, environments that generate emotional response, not only naturally,” De Villa said.The Mexican director is considered an invisible director; he always tries to honor the text first. His personal brand is left in a subtle position of the camera to reinforce the characters. “I try to find the exact opposite of the obvious, look for ways to violate expectations that the public brings today and seek moments of surprise that are fresh.”De Villa has also directed TV in channels like Telemundo, Mun2, Discovery Channel and PBS. He has additionally made commercials for Harley-Davidson, Comcast, McDonald´s, AT&T, Verizon, Time Warner Cable ConAgra Food, Kraft Foods, Phillip Morrris, Bayer, among others.What is more, he has worked with numerous celebrities through his work in film, advertising and television, as Sofia Vergara, Salma Hayek, John Leguizamo, Alfred Molina, Freddy Rodriguez, Jay Hernandez, Luis Guzman, Bobby Cannavale, Eddie Olmos Juan Manuel Marquez, Cesar Millan, among others. The Mexican director has three children, and dedicates them all his projects whether they are movies, television, commercial or web films. Also, De Villa, believes that the Hispanic market is going through a very interesting time of transition. “Every day the market is moving towards a more universal approach, where the target is the second-generation Hispanics, although they speak Spanish, their first language is English. They are the children of immigrants and this leads the Hispanic advertising to have a fellowship with the general market. The boundaries that marked each market have become an illusion and they are old, this change is fascinating and difficult at the same time, it is like the old west: everything values, no rules.”Producer:Milagro Films, EE UUContact: {Sergio Nicolau;snicolau@milagrofilms.com}T +1-323-460-6661{To watch the video; http://www.produ.com/publicidad/videos/index.html?Noti=8408}
