Cinelatino is giving audiences an enticing tune-in alternative with the launch of the first of its new serialized dramas. In keeping with the network’s fresh, edgy, and acclaimed content offerings, Cinelatino will now give viewers the option for heightened narrative complexity with a selection of scripted mini-series programming, hosting titles that include both period drama and contemporary storylines.

Headlining the lineup on Saturday, January 30 at 11pm ET/8pm PT will be Calle Augusta (Rua Augusta), a provocative and realistic, 30-minutes per episode Brazilian series centered around the gritty, underground world of strip clubs in Sāo Paulo’s infamous and emblematic party street, Rua Augusta. The series, based on the hit Israeli drama Allenby St, follows the story of Mika, a bewitching and mysterious night club dancer running from a traumatic past, who is the inevitable catalyst for trouble wherever she goes.

“This is a masterfully produced series that portrays the captivating yet dangerous world of nightclubs and the people that work in them,” said Carolina Bilbao, VP of Programming and Development for Cinelatino.

Additional series set to premiere later in the year include Ciudad Prohibida; Rubirosa, a biographical drama based on the life of Dominican soldier, diplomat, race car driver, and polo player, Porfirio Rubirosa; and Instinto, an erotic contemporary.

“While movies remain at the heart of what we offer our viewers, we understand that we need to be nimble with our content offering. Some stories — stories that are just as enticing, dramatic, and exciting as our blockbuster films — take longer to be told. By investing in this new format we’re continuing to super-serve the Hispanic/Latino community, giving our audience another option for compelling, high-quality entertainment. Calle Augusta is the first of several premium series we will be programming throughout the year, carefully curated for the Cinelatino audience,” said Jim McNamara, vice chairman of the board for Hemisphere Media Group.
