Former Vice Studios Executive Edgar Jaramillo Launches Break Da Rules

14 de noviembre de 2025

Edgar Jaramillo: "Launching Break Da Rules is about creating the kind of studio we’ve always wanted to work with, one that moves fast, thinks globally, and gives creators the freedom to build stories that feel fresh and fearless"

New independent entertainment company and film studio Break Da Rules (BDR), which has opened its doors in both North America and Latin America, is dedicated to developing original documentaries, formats, and films that push creative boundaries and ignite cultural conversation.

Led by Edgar Jaramillo, who formerly oversaw Vice Studios’ operations in Latin America & U.S. Hispanic, and a senior team with decades of industry experience, Break Da Rules is launching in Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, Mexico City, Bogotá and Buenos Aires.

BDR operates across multiple verticals, including original IP development and production for global streamers, as well as commercial and branded content, where the new studio represents a roster of visionary directors and photographers. Break Da Rules also houses an animation and technology division, where it utilizes 3D animation, GenAI and various automation tools to streamline production and complex workflows, alongside its merchandising unit.

Break Da Rules currently has numerous original series, documentaries and films in active development across unscripted, scripted, and animation. BDR’s in-house studio specializes in true crime, music documentaries, and animation, with a focus on stories that matter.

SENIOR TEAM

In addition to Jaramillo, BDR’s senior team is led by César A. Ochoa (former VP at Sony Music Latin), who leads the company’s talent and creative partnerships team. Other top executives include Ignacio Segura (award-winning commercial and creative director), Nicolás Matiz (award-winning audio and software engineer, sound mixer and producer), Gregg Vickers (former Sony Music Latin and veteran music sales and marketing exec) and Anthony Gonzalez (former BMG Music Entertainment and Sony Music Latin exec).

Overall, the BDR senior team combined has nearly 100 years of industry experience, spanning legacy projects for icons like Celia Cruz and Tito Puente to hit television formats such as Last One Laughing: LOL, MasterChef and The Voice Kids.

BDR was designed to operate end to end, from concept to delivery, with full-scale production services across the U.S., Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia. Our access to local incentives and trusted service partnerships gives us the ability to build premium productions anywhere in the region. The BDR Studio Fund expands that reach, fueling original development and ensuring that the studio retains creative control and long-term ownership of every story it creates.

“Launching Break Da Rules is about creating the kind of studio we’ve always wanted to work with, one that moves fast, thinks globally, and gives creators the freedom to build stories that feel fresh and fearless,” says Jaramillo. “There’s an incredible opportunity right now to disrupt how content is developed and owned, and we plan to lead that shift from the ground up. And it sounds cliché, but we have assembled what is truly an All-Star team at BDR, a collective with decades of experience working across a variety of verticals in the U.S. and Latin America.”

Added Ochoa, “Break Da Rules gives us the freedom to imagine like both creators and entrepreneurs. By connecting music, merchandising, technology and film, we’re creating a studio model that maximizes opportunities and connects global audiences with stories on every level; visual, sentiment, and cultural.”
