By 2025, Telemundo will continue investing in content, and talent, reshaping its programming grid, and innovating. During his keynote talk, moderated by John Hopewell, International Features Editor at Variety, Luis Fernández, Chairman of NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises, stated at Content Americas that Telemundo wants to “win the future” and emphasized, “We must change, but not just for the sake of change.”
“If you look at our programming grids from 2010, 2017, and 2024, we’ve been changing and evolving. In 2010, we had a talk show at 7pm, a telenovela at 9pm, and a series at 10pm. By 2017, we had evolved, and in 2024, we will have reality shows from 7 to 10pm and a series at 10pm. In 2025, we’ll keep evolving and changing,” Fernández explained.
He stressed that the content strategy revolves around evolution and being relevant, describing this as “the number one strategy for engaging with the Latino community.” He noted that Telemundo’s 6:30pm newscast was the only one of its kind to grow its audience.
He also mentioned that he was never a fan of the slogan labeling Telemundo as “the home of reality shows.” “We can’t focus on just one genre,” he added.

In scripted content, Telemundo seeks stories that resonate and inspire passion in U.S. Latinos and professionals across Latin America. One example is Velvet, an adaptation currently in the works that will begin production next month at Telemundo Center in New York.
“When you say Velvet, everyone immediately knows what you’re talking about. That’s the best example of Telemundo Studios’ commitment for 2025. I believe it will captivate and attract viewers just as it has for many years in Europe. Telemundo wants to own the future. Telemundo Studios honors its successful past, but we must secure its future,” Fernández said.
NEW LIVE SPORTS SHOW AND FAST SPORTS CHANNEL
The executive also announced plans for a daily live sports show and a FAST sports channel by 2025. In the news sector, new initiatives will leverage the growing prominence of Julio Vaqueiro as a news anchor.
Fernández further stated that Telemundo is open to co-productions: “I’m obsessed with co-productions. I believe in collaboration, and by 2025, partnerships with competitors will be key. I’m a strong advocate for co-productions, and we’re actively pursuing them in this market,” he concluded.
