With a total area of 24,000 square meters, plans are underway to build six large soundstages within the Morelos Studios complex, which is scheduled to begin construction in one year. The project is designed under international standards to attract high-impact productions. This multipurpose initiative, backed by an initial investment of US$5 million, is expected to launch with two of the six soundstages in its first phase.
Alberto Ramírez, CEO of ETC Media Group, shared some details about the complex during the Morelos Film Industry Meeting, held at Hacienda Chiconcuac on Thursday, March 26. He explained that the goal is to help turn Morelos into “the next great set in the world.” “We want to build platforms that connect talent, global opportunities, and business,” he said.
He noted that the project will be developed in stages and is expected to take between three and five years to complete. It is a private investment initiative, with EFD Studios and ETC Media Group as the main partners.
The goal is to build soundstages that meet the industry’s needs, each with a surface area of 2,000 square meters and heights ranging from 12 to 16 meters. The project also includes cutting-edge technologies such as LED volume screens. “We will work very closely with major studios. We want to meet the standards and expectations required today for this type of infrastructure,” Ramírez told PRODU.
Georgina Terán, CEO of EFD Studios, said they are very proud to be part of this major development. “This project is part of a broader strategy to boost the audiovisual industry in the country, where collaboration between the public and private sectors enables the creation of infrastructure, talent, and real opportunities for growth in Mexico’s audiovisual sector,” Terán told PRODU.
As previously reported, the transformation of the Cuernavaca Convention Center is a multipurpose complex that goes beyond film, encompassing advertising, music videos, series, premium content, and more.
Ramírez added that sustainability requirements are being carefully considered. “At this stage, we are reviewing all the details of the preliminary project. We are incorporating the industry’s needs and are in discussions with major studios. We hope this project becomes an important link not only for Morelos, not just for the country, but for Latin America,” he concluded.
