On World Water Day on March 22, and to raise awareness about the global plastic waste crisis, National Geographic Latin America released Sounds of Future Ocean, an album that contains 4 tracks with sounds made only with plastic waste removed from the ocean, and taken to a recording studio.

Each song represents an ecosystem affected by plastic: beaches, the open sea, glaciers and deep ocean. A message at the end of each song explains what type of plastic waste was used to make the song and invites people to take a pledge for our planet, to reduce the use of single-use plastic and to join National Geographic campaign “Planet or Plastic?”

The global “Planet or Plastic?” campaign aims at raising awareness of this crisis and help reducing the amount of single-use plastic that enters in the world’s oceans by using communication, challenges, specific actions and alliances. The initiative Sounds of Future Ocean inspires, informs and motivates through the power of sounds. It is about entertainment with a purpose.
