Ramiro Avendaño is appointed president of Canal 1 in Colombia

Canal 1, operated by Plural Comunicaciones, a partnership between NTC, CM&, RTI and the US company Hemisphere Media Group (HMTV in NASDAQ), appoints Ramiro Avendaño as the new president of the channel.

“The Colombian audience is very demanding and appreciates varied and quality programming, both in entertainment and in news reports. Canal 1 has known how to respond to that need and through a relevant and respectful offer for TV viewers, they have managed to be consolidated as a great option inside the existing offer, both for consumers and for brands,” comments Ramiro Avendaño.

Avendaño is an Industrial Engineer from Javeriana University, with an MBA from the Catholic University in Chile and is a member of Company presidents at the University of Los Andes. Before reaching the presidency of the channel, he performed as president of the newspaper El Heraldo, leading media company in the North of Colombia.

His professional career path includes being a VP for Latin America at Brightstar Corporation part of the Japanese group Softbank; Sales and Marketing VP of Millicom (Tigo) Operations in en Colombia, the Philippines, Laos, and El Salvador; as well as Head of Movistar Companies in Colombia.

“We are delighted that Ramiro joins us as president of Canal 1. Ramiro has huge experience in media and telecommunications and has achieved great results in his previous positions. We are sure he will continue, and that he will accelerate Canal 1’s growth,” expressed Alan Sokol, president of Hemisphere Media Group.
