Rodolfo Martínez from ESPN states that in live sports TV continues to dominate despite the advance of digital

Ardi Dwornik, senior director of Communications at ESPN International and ESPN Deportes, showed PRODU the facilities they have in IBC-Rio for the Olympic Games, and Rodolfo Martínez, VP of International Production, spoke about the coverage operation that has more than 1000 people. He said that on live sports, TV continues to reign, despite the advance of digital.Dwornik highlighted the efforts and dedication of the 400 people at IBC covering the Olympic Games that many times started their day at 7am and ended at 2am. He stated that the effort was rendering results: during the inauguration, measurements revealed that in Brazil, the ESPN audience was 4 times larger than the opening of the past games in London. He also mentioned that they were making the signals for each territory local, such as the signal in Colombia, emphasizing their own athletes. Martínez explained that they produced in three languages: Spanish for Latin America, with its respective signals, north and south; in Portuguese for Brazil and in English for the Caribbean islands. There is personnel in IBC and additionally, people in the studios in Mexico City, Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Bristol, US. There is also a ‘no rights’ group operating in an extra studio across the street from IBC, where they produce content in English and Spanish for the US and in English also for the UK, Australia and India.
