Coty Cagliolo, SVP and General Manager of Production for Latin America and U.S. Hispanic at SPT with John Rossiter, EVP, Distribution, Networks & Production, Latin America, SPT
Sony Pictures Television held its screenings for Latin American buyers this Tuesday, the 20th.
“We’ll showcase some of the shows we’ve just produced and new shows from our slate. One of the shows we’re presenting is Señoras Mal, and we’re very excited. Now that Coty (Cagliolo) has joined us, one of our biggest goals has always been to raise the bar on quality and move in a much more premium direction,” said John Rossiter, Executive VP of Distribution, Networks & Production for SPT Latin America, in an interview with PRODU. He was joined by Coty Cagliolo, SVP and General Manager of Production for Latin America and U.S. Hispanic at SPT, who assumed the position in January of this year.
Rossiter pointed out that the slate shown this Tuesday the 20th is “very rich and diverse. You’ll see everything from unscripted programming to premium productions and returning hits like Casados con Hijos and Enloqueciendo Contigo. We have a wide variety of content that we produce, along with shows developed by our studios internationally and in Hollywood,” said Rossiter. He summarized that six are international fiction shows and two are in development, plus a couple of unscripted shows — true crime, reality shows.
The company announced two new projects: the action/dramedy Carlota (10×45’) and the Mexican adaptation of Doc, in addition to Señoras Mal, a spin-off of Niñas Mal.

Asked about Señoras Mal, Cagliolo said it’s one of the projects they’re most excited about. “Let’s say it’s a spin-off — not exactly a continuation — from the spirit of Niñas Mal, which was a big hit both on TV and in film. So it’s coming back, with these girls now grown up and embracing the fact that they are now women. Señoras — but not nice señoras,” she said.
Carlota, produced by SPT International Production, is inspired by the true story of Carlota of Habsburg, the first and only Empress of Mexico. Reimagining her as a young visionary ahead of her time, this international series — an epic tale of identity, power, and love — follows Carlota’s journey through cultural resistance and a complex love story as she fights to shape a new empire.
Carlota stars pop icon Belinda as Carlota (Killer Women, Welcome to Eden), Jaime Lorente as Maximilian (Money Heist), Miguel Ángel Silvestre as Alfred Van Der Smissen (Velvet), and Mexican actress Mabel Cadena as Josefa (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever), in a dynamic blend of Latin American and Spanish talent.

Carlota features a top-tier production team led by Cagliolo and Carlos Quintanilla Sakar, VP and Head of Content and Production for LatAm and U.S. Hispanic, who also serves as executive producer and showrunner, alongside executive producers Alejandro García and Madelaine Contreras.
“Filmed in Mexico, Colombia, and Spain, Carlota marks a major milestone in our journey to establish SPT as a leading entertainment producer in Latin America. This project underscores our commitment to creating top-tier stories that resonate with audiences not just in Latin America but around the world,” said Rossiter.
The Mexican adaptation of Doc, based on the acclaimed Italian series Doc – Nelle tue mani, created and produced by Lux Vide, a Fremantle company, is another highlight of the screenings.

The Mexican adaptation follows the story of Andrés Ferrara, head of internal medicine, who loses the last twelve years of his memory after an attempted murder. As he faces a life he no longer recognizes, he must relearn vital lessons and fight to reclaim what matters most — with help (and sometimes resistance) from his family and colleagues.
This medical drama stars Juan Pablo Medina as Andrés Ferrara (The Two Hemispheres of Lucca), Gabriela de la Garza (Monarca), Stephanie Cayo (Tell Me What You Want (Really)), Iván Sánchez (Queen of the South), Erick Chapa (Inmate No.1), and Giuseppe Gamba (Cindy la Regia).
The adaptation is directed by Fran Franco (Lalola, Beyond You, The Usurper), Andrés López (The Queen of Flow), and Harold Ariza (Solitude Beach, Sound of Freedom, The Gravediggers Club). Cagliolo leads the production team alongside Quintanilla Sakar, who also acts as executive producer and creative director, together with producers Alejandro García and Madelaine Contreras.
“Bringing globally successful IPs like Doc, which has been a huge hit in the U.S., to local audiences is at the core of our strategy. By adapting powerful, proven stories through a local lens, we can connect more deeply with viewers while strengthening our narrative presence in the region. It’s about blending global scale with local relevance,” Rossiter added.
The U.S. adaptation of Doc, starring Molly Parker and produced by SPT Studios, was FOX’s number one show this season, with over 16 million viewers for its premiere episode alone.
“We have a scripted series starring John Hamm, American Hostage, currently in development, and we have The Miniature Wife, which will air on NBC in the U.S., starring Matthew Macfadyen and Elizabeth Banks. We’re very excited about this series — it’s something very fresh. And, as always, we talk about creativity and how we need to balance the familiar with the different. So that series has us thrilled,” said Rossiter.
Rossiter also mentioned The Lord of the Flies, “which is one of the most important books of all time. I never read it in school — I know everyone else did except me — but it’s a fantastic book. And the way it has been filmed is incredible. It was directed by the same creator of Adolescence, Jack Thorne,” he added.
And then there’s Outlander: Blood of My Blood, a prequel to “the major franchise. And that’s truly exciting because I think it’s one of the biggest franchises out there. This prequel focuses on Jamie and Claire’s parents and also unfolds across two timelines, telling their story. And honestly, it looks spectacular,” he said.

Rossiter and Cagliolo recalled that currently the original Latin American productions airing in the region include Enloqueciendo Contigo on Disney+; two seasons of Casados con Hijos with Televisa and ViX; “and then, of course, we have Yo No Soy Mendoza, which is on Netflix and has done incredibly well. I think it’s been in the top 10 across Latin America for four weeks now, and it’s been number one in Mexico for three or even four weeks. So we’re very happy with that. Also, of course, we have our unscripted shows, like Shark Tank in Brazil and Mexico, where we just filmed the tenth season,” they said.
Regarding Shark Tank, they mentioned they are developing satellite shows around the content. “It’s a very interesting franchise. Having 10 seasons in one territory and now beginning to have satellite shows,” noted Cagliolo.
Cagliolo explained that the satellite shows are spin-offs of the program featuring different creators, with details to be announced soon.
She added they are filming the second season of Enloqueciendo Contigo and are in pre-production on the third season of Casados con Hijos and the fourth season of Rosario Tijeras. She clarified that the shows aren’t only on streaming platforms — many of these titles are available both on platforms and traditional TV, as is the case with Casados con Hijos, which airs on Sony Channel (pay TV), Televisa (broadcast TV), and ViX (SVOD) for the U.S. Hispanic audience.
