Rosy Ocampo from Televisa look for new genres for the company´s contents

The recent changes Televisa has carried out in its content area, now lead by Isaac Lee, led the company to implement different strategies to open its doors to independent creatives. One of them is Pilot Season, a pitch that managed to gather around 100 projects from 59 companies.

“In my position as Corporate Content VP at Televisa, we also produce for Univision, that jointly gathers an audience of more than 170 people, which led us to develop two lines to achieve quality content: Innovation and social responsibility. This is because consumers are more demanding and want to see another type of storytelling. This forced us to open the doors to generate allies and create new formats such as short telenovelas and novel series, with topics such as empowerment of women and the role of man in society,” commented Rosy Ocampo.

Starting in February this year, with the change in the Contents direction, independent content generators have more opportunities. That is proven by the program they implemented, Pilot Season, “where we look at pitches with the intention of embarking on a clear and direct quest of new genres –such as melodrama combined with criminalistics— with the help of directors, film producers, and production companies. The first approach managed to gather 99 projects from 59 companies, which will be filtered until we leave four or five that will be produced to be taken to open TV or OTT platforms.”
