Alejandra Palomera of Palomera Group, Jorge Xolalpa of Mighty Aphrodite Pictures and Jolene Rodríguez of Broken English Productions
Director and producer Jorge Xolalpa announced an exclusive option agreement to develop an authorized film about the life and legacy of U.S. Army Specialist Vanessa Guillén. Palomera Group, led by Alejandra Palomera, and Levy Law PLLC, the legal team representing Mayra Guillén, facilitated the option agreement, which was made through Xolalpa’s Mighty Aphrodite Pictures in partnership with the Guillén family. The project has also brought on Jolene Rodriguez of Broken English Productions as a producer.
The agreement grants the rights to structure, negotiate and market the film production.
Mayra Guillén and Alejandra Palomera will serve as executive producers.
The story will explore Guillén’s life and the events at Fort Hood in 2020 that prompted reforms within the U.S. Armed Forces. The production will portray her family’s pursuit of justice.
“This goes far beyond the opportunity to make a film; it is a responsibility. From the beginning, our commitment has been to honor Vanessa’s life with honesty, sensitivity and authenticity,” Xolalpa said.
Mighty Aphrodite Pictures has added producer Jolene Rodriguez to the team. In addition to the biopic, Xolalpa and Rodriguez have signed a production agreement to develop three feature films together.
Jorge Xolalpa leads Mighty Aphrodite Pictures, with a catalog focused on Latino and independent narratives. His projects have participated in more than 50 international film festivals. He is the author of the memoir Ni de Aquí, ni de Allá and is preparing to release his novel The Woman in My Mirror.
