Today during SXSW Interactive, Univision Digital, announced the launch of Becoming a Luchador, the newest follow-documentary series to premiere on the Flama network, starring Univision Creator Network’s YouTube sensation Eric “SUPEReeeGO” Ochoa. Becoming a Luchador will premiere across platforms including TheFlama.com, YouTube and Facebook late spring of this year. The six-part series Becoming a Luchador follows Ochoa as he attempts to master the moves used by the stars of lucha libre, the wildly popular and acrobatic form of professional wrestling practiced in Mexico, via an intensive one-month course, culminating with a live match against an actual luchador. The trials and tribulations of Ochoa’s lucha training will also be captured through four vlog-style episodes on his YouTube channel, which boasts more than two million subscribers and 400 million video views—making him one of the most popular Latinos on YouTube.“We’re thrilled to bring Eric’s luchador story to Flama, our digital video destination created by, with and for Hispanic millennials. Not only is it a perfect match of format and platforms with fantastic storytelling for our viewers—it speaks to the value and power of being a part of the Univision Creator Network, which affords talent opportunities that creators may otherwise not have access to,” said Steven Benanav, VP, Content Partnerships & general manager of Flama, UCI.Ochoa, who participated in a panel discussion, Silent Beast: U.S. Latinos Will Change Everything, at SXSW Interactive along with Benanav to address the prominence of the growing Hispanic Millennial population, and the challenge with reaching this group en masse, echoed this sentiment. “The production value, the brand opportunity and the planning and resources that went into this have been made possible with the support and backing that comes with being part of the Univision Creator Network,” he said.
