Venevisión renegotiates 2017 programming deal with Univision and regains rights in the U.S.

Two years prior to the expiration of the programming deal between Venevisión and Univision, it was announced the companies restructured the deal, where Venevisión regains the rights of some titles and shows that can now be made available to the U.S. Hispanic market. This step of the new organization headed by Adriana Cisneros, follows the expansion of the company’s Miami studios, inaugurated in December of 2014, as well as other partnerships and acquisitions of Internet companies recently announced. The exclusivity deal between Venevisión –now Cisneros-, and Univision represented a significant amount of money. The figures behind the new deal were not disclosed. The original programming deal dates back to 2001, when Venevisión –part of the Cisneros Organization-, and Grupo Televisa signed an agreement with Univision Communications granting Univision exclusive programming rights in the U.S. Hispanic market until 2017.
