Series like Mentiras, based on the renowned musical comedy, and Cada Minuto Cuenta are proof of Mexico’s production quality, said Javiera Balmaceda, Head of Originals for Latin America, Canada, and Australia at Prime Video, in an interview with PRODU.
Directed and created by acclaimed filmmaker Gabriel Ripstein, Mentiras features a star-studded cast including Belinda, Diana Bovio, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Regina Blandón, and Mariana Treviño. It is produced by Cine Vaquero, led by Gerardo Gatica and Luis Gerardo Méndez.
Balmaceda mentioned they are working on the second season of Cada Minuto Cuenta and have already announced Cometierra.
Cometierra is an Amazon Prime Video series based on the novel of the same name by Dolores Reyes. It follows Aylín, a young woman living in the suburbs of Mexico City who can communicate with the Earth.
Daniel Burman, a writer and producer, directs the series. Reyes’ novel explores themes such as violence, identity, and grief.
CADA MINUTO CUENTA 2
Cada Minuto Cuenta tells the story of the events that took place in Mexico City on September 19, 1985, following an 8.1 magnitude earthquake. A doctor and his nurses struggle to rescue those trapped under the General Hospital, while a foreign journalist covers the disaster, and a family from Tlatelolco desperately tries to reunite amid the rubble. It is a Traziende production, made using virtual production technology in collaboration with Simplemente.
Balmaceda also spoke about Argentine content on the platform, specifically Los Tinelli, a docufollow series about Marcelo Tinelli’s family, and the new season of LOL, hosted by Susana Giménez.
Regarding La Casa de los Espíritus, she highlighted that Francisca Alegría and her team beautifully capture the richness of Isabel Allende’s novel while also making it appealing to new audiences through their production approach.
The series is produced by FilmNation and Fábula, with executive production by Isabel Allende and Eva Longoria.
