Long before the term short drama became popular, Prismaticoos was already blazing a trail in Mexico. Originally founded as a music video production company, the company oriented itself early on toward creating short dramatized stories for social media.

With more than nine years of experience, the company now has a catalog of more than 1,300 pieces of content. It also has a global community of more than 200 million followers and partnerships as an official partner of Meta, YouTube, and TikTok. This journey culminates with the launch of its own app, Prisma+, expected by the end of 2026.

FAST-PACED SHOOTING AND GRIPPING EPISODES

The leap to vertical format required solving two major challenges: the creative one, adapting the narrative to one- to two-minute episodes with constant cliffhangers, and the operational one, sustaining a shooting pace faster than that of traditional television.

For Prismaticoos, the key to scaling was combining its creative sensibility with real-time metrics analysis, in parallel with the platforms, adjusting lengths, themes, and character archetypes according to direct audience feedback. “What allowed us to grow was analyzing the data together with the platforms to understand which lengths, themes, and characters connected, and adjusting on the fly,” they explained.

NATIVE CONTENT ENGAGES MORE

Amid the surge of Asian content, the company maintains that the differentiating value of local production is irreplaceable.

“Asian content opened the door, but native content, with Latino talent and stories that reflect our families, connects much more, not only in Latin America but also with Hispanic audiences in the U.S. and Europe. Dubbing can hardly convey what the DNA of the Mexican telenovela, brought into the microdrama format, achieves: the tone, the faces, and the way of speaking,” they told PRODU.

Prismaticoos notes that this relevance has driven the format to evolve toward the miniseries —spanning genres such as comedy, horror, and science fiction, which allows them to reach audiences of all ages, “to the point that Asian platforms themselves have begun hiring Latin American producers to bring local flavor to their catalogs.”

A DIVERSE BUT COMPETITIVE FUTURE

“We don’t believe there will be a single dominant player. We see a market that will consolidate: many platforms will merge into the larger ones, because the platform alone is not enough. This format demands an enormous amount of content and a constant level of production, and whoever doesn’t have that won’t be able to keep up. In terms of monetization, the model is balancing between subscriptions, micropayments, advertising, and brand partnerships,” they said.

Looking ahead to 2027, following the rollout of Prisma+, the company’s goal is to consolidate the app in Latin America and enter the Hispanic market in the U.S. They will produce six exclusive original series per month for the Prisma+ platform, while also continuing to develop series for their various distribution windows. At the same time, they are working on business partnerships to position the platform as the strategic distribution and content partner for Spanish-language brands and agencies.
