For Gustavo Razzetti, EVP and General Director at LAPIZ to drive innovation is critical when building the right team. In an article posted at Liberationist, he said that change needs a real team. “One made of real people. The crazy ones who will make change happen. A team of misfits.” Razzetti used as an example what happens in the movie industry. “Actors love to play misfits because they can be more human and less pretentious. Audiences like misfit movies because they inspire regular folks to take on challenges that are deemed to be impossible” he explained. He gives four reasons why misfits are the best choice. “First, misfits love being against the odds, everyone expects a team of misfits to fail, and actually they are fueled by rejection. Second, misfits respect crazy leaders, they are very good at recruiting other crazies, and they are the only ones that can bring them together around the thrill of risky missions. Third, misfits will take missions no one else would the typical A-team tends to avoid dangerous missions because they know the risks. Misfits, on the contrary, won’t panic. They are either too brave, too crazy or simply have nothing to lose” he said. And finally, misfits are brought together by passion not by choice. Razzetti also explains how to build a team of Misfits. “Don’t just build an innovation team but a successful one. That’s why misfits are the way to go” he said. He gave a list of the various profiles to include such as: “Mastermind” or the Crazy Leader; “Genius” or the Experimenter; “Strong Guy” or the Achiever, the “Crazy Guy” or the Challenger; “The Lady” or the Cheerleader, and “The Funny Guy” or the Optimistic. “Remember, building the right innovation team is not an easy mission. Forget about building a perfect team if you want real change” he concluded.
