Deeny Kaplan: "After the US English language dub of a foreign title or IP, the second most requested language is always Neutral Spanish, or Latin American Spanish"

Miami has always been referred to as the “Gateway to Latin America, with today’s local Hispanic population reported to be in excess of 70%. according to the most recent census. Our own 25-year-old history, lies deep in the Hispanic culture, as The Kitchen was founded originally as a division of The Cisneros Television Group, a strong media conglomerate from Venezuela”, said Deeny Kaplan, Chief Marketing Office and Founding Partner, The Kitchen.

Since day one, in May 2001, the team at The Kitchen has provided international linguistic localization services into Latin American Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese, from practically any source language. From its headquarters in Miami, where the Latin American community has built a solid and long-lasting pool of talent, The Kitchen has maintained a strong presence in producing dubbing in both languages.

“After the US English language dub of a foreign title or IP, the second most requested language is always Neutral Spanish, or Latin American Spanish. At the beginning of our journey, the question was always where in Latin America we should dub. While Mexico was ground zero for all Spanish dubbing decades ago, the Mexican accent clearly was recognizable and often considered too ethnic, or too localized. Today, what we create with Mexican talent is now always neutral. The same is true whether we dub in Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, or Miami,” Kaplan added.

“Miami is now the city where South Americans are driven to for many reasons: economic, political or simply to find a better life. Miami talent offer not only a neutral accent in dubbing Latin Spanish or Brazilian Portuguese, the voices we use assure a deep understanding of the culture and nuances of the language as well. This is extremely important in localizing content from any language. Our talent will always partner with our native directors and project managers, many of whom are in territory, to develop a precise recreation of the original narratives, with localized references throughout,” she ended.
