Dannely Flores-Kramer From Dieste: We Gathered Some Thought-Starters To Consider When Targeting U.S. Hispanics This 2017 Holiday Season

While most people are preparing for summer, in Dieste they are planning for Christmas holidays. Dannely Flores-Kramer, Account Planning Director at Dieste wrote a post at Provoke Weekly presenting some thought-starters to consider when targeting U.S. Hispanics this 2017 holiday season. For starters, Flores-Kramer presented five thoughts to be considered: The house is the holiday hub, the tension of the season, family gatherings & food, a time for reflection, and the season lasts longer. The first three are somehow related. For Latinos homes are the epicenter of celebrations during Christmas attracting not only family and friends, but a lot of expected and unexpected guests and visits. Preparing to greet all this people at home, means a lot of stress not solely caused by errands, shopping, hosting or meals needed to be cooked but also by deciding which traditions will come in play during key holidays. And of course, family gatherings around food are the foundation for holiday celebrations, including Latinos. “In the U.S., there has been a growth of cross cultural influence where American traditional dishes are likely to be accompanied by traditional Latino ones.” Finally, something to take into account is that for many U.S. Latinos the holiday season is longer. It starts with Thanksgiving, with many first-generation Latinos gathering with their de facto families for Friendsgiving. And you must add Noche Buena (Christmas Eve) and Christmas day and it all culminates on January 6th with the celebration of Día de Reyes, or Three Kings.
