Dieste Celebrates Latina Mothers With Their Popular Wisdom

Dieste: Queríamos reconocer y celebrar a las mamás por todas sus lecciones de vida experimentales

“A typical thing in the mother-child relationship are the experimental, unverified life lessons they gave us in life. Many of these lessons have no scientific foundation or sense, they are based on cultural roots that go deep down in Latinos’ lives.” With this in mind, the Hispanic agency Dieste prepared a video starring their Latino employees talking about this advice and published it on Provoke Weekly. The video shows the diverse lessons that mothers gave their children: Cutting off the edges of a cucumber and rubbing them against the cucumber to take away the bitterness; “if you misbehave, the Coco will come and get you” referring to a sinister character many mothers used to threaten their children; making a cross with their nails on their children’s mosquito bites so they wouldn’t itch; or, after a blow, mom would say “sana, sana, colita de rana” (heal, heal, frog tail) but frogs don’t have tails; and to make sure your pasta is ready, you throw one at the wall to see if it sticks. All these lessons have no grounds, but for Dieste, they are a sample of the love mothers feel for their children.“So for this Mother’s Day we wanted to recognize and celebrate moms for all their experimental unverified life lessons that they so gracefully and voluntarily passed on to us” highlighted the agency on its website.
